Clemente, his 3 and a half year old daughter and me and two hangovers (to bed at about 4 a.m) went to visit a bit of the walls Renaissance walls (there?s 13 km of them) that surround Ferrara. They have been completely rearranged as some sort of park area all around the historical city, which is really very big.
Clemente left me at the station and |I made my way through Bologna to Sasso Marconi, where I booked into a hotel by the motorway that links Bologna to Firenze.
I?m unable to explain to you why a troupe of about 50 Austrians that where rather more middle aged than me had had the idea to book into the same hotel but my guess is that:
a) that they where not there to go and walk up in the hills. I can?t imagine how they would have coped with all the wine cartons they were carrying about... and, ok, I didn?t want to be politically incorrect, but they did not look very fit.
b) they weren?t here to have a fight with their computer to update a website and the try and get the bl**** 000111001100011100000111?s down a phone line that wants to speak to your computer.........which is what I did for the rest of the day.
And so to bed for an early start onto the via degli Dei that links Bologna
to Firenze, but is not exactly a motorway.
